Thermia Mega renewable – it’s a sensible choice

Swedish housing association chooses Thermia

Cost of district heating was too high

HSB Fabriken (Hyresgästernas sparkasse- och byggnadsförening och fabriken) is a housing association in Arvika, a town in Vermland, Sweden. The association represents 11 buildings constructed in the mid-1980s, which are home to around 200 people. The total residential area is made up of 8,600 m2 of apartments and 1,400 m2 of other areas, such as the garage etc. The rising cost of district heating was the main reason why the residents started looking for new heating solution.

“All tenants now enjoy warmth and comfort in the winter while the housing association is able to save up to 65,000 Euro during each heating season.”

We enjoy comfort while saving money

The association chose to carry out a full retrofit, meaning that the district heating was completely replaced by geothermal energy. Heating is now supported by three Mega inverter-driven ground-source heat pumps, each with a capacity of 88 kW.

“This has proved a good investment both economically and in terms of the natural environment, which has really paid off”, added Anders Johansson from the HSB Fabriken housing association.

Moreover, it was decided to recover as much energy from the building as possible by using an additional heat pump. To this end, a Robust Eco was fitted with a capacity of 33 kW to extract energy solely from exhaust air to produce hot water.
