Back in 1973, the JBC was well ahead of its time, leading the way for the heat pumps of the future. The JBC was the first heat pump to combine a ground source heat pump, hot water tank, controls and auxiliary heating all in one unit.

With a ground source heat pump, hot water tank, controls and auxiliary heating all in one unit, JBC was decades ahead of its time. The innovation was unique. Today, the JBC is recognised as pioneering, leading the way in setting the standard for a new type of heating solution.
In 2023, we celebrate JBC as an important milestone in our 100-year history and, as always, look forward to developing the next generation of heating solutions. Here at Thermia, we are always striving to stay one step ahead.
Hot water production up by 44%
Continual evolution and development
Staying ahead means constantly evolving and developing, which is exactly what we have done in the last 50 years. We have improved the efficiency of heat pumps dramatically, as well as introducing new products, including the Atlas ground source heat pump, which was the first to achieve a SCOP of over 6.0. The Atlas is 44% more efficient at hot water production than the JBC, based on an improvement in efficiency (COP) from 2.04 to 2.94. Here is a comparison of performance between JBC and Atlas.
