Investment that pays off

This 185 sqm bungalow was built in 2016. It is completely heated by underfloor heating. A 9kW Atec air source heat pump with a Total 180 litre cylinder has been running since March 2017.

At initial planning stages the heating system for this project was a dilemma. Ashgrove’s installers in the area, Mike & Conor O’ Brien, came highly recommended to the client. He also considered an oil boiler with solar panels. The expense of filling the oil tank and also the idea of covering the roof with solar panels turned him off the idea. The possible theft of oil was also a factor. Part L regulations were also a big factor in the decision.
The running costs are low and the heat pump looks like a great fit for this home. The cost of the complete system: air to water heat pump, underfloor and all controls, including the pressurized domestic plumbing system was €17,000. After Thermia Atec installation total heating cost is 605 Euro per year.
